About me

I am a Houston-based representational artist with a keen interest in portraiture and the natural world. Born and raised in Thailand, I pursued my secondary education in England and spent several years in the Middle East. I began my first career in lingerie design, where I discovered an admiration for the craftsmanship and production side of the business. Sewing and embroidery were never my strong suits, yet fascination with fine details and working in small scale carried over naturally when I decided to change direction into fine art, the discipline I had known I was proficient in since high school.

Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in understanding classical realism, while also keeping an open mind on more liberal contemporary approaches. I choose not to follow one methodology but have explored different ways of working that prioritise form, anatomy, measurements, or design at varying degrees. This balanced perspective informs my strategy for finding my own artistic voice: I believe that the outcome that satisfies me should be created through the process that I equally enjoy. Therefore, I value the fundamentals as the core that keeps me grounded when I allow myself the freedom to experiment, helping me maintain an appropriate level of control and focus for better results.

I approach each new art piece like a puzzle, allowing me to keep the work exciting. Even when working on the same reference at a different scale, new challenges emerge that maintain my fascination with the piece. The pattern that keeps emerging in my artistic practice has been my unconscious tendency to push my contrasts a little, giving my works a striking aesthetic. My method sets the stage for any intuitive actions that might arise, allowing for an element of surprise shaped by the foundations I’ve developed in my previous practices. I am greatly inspired by Jeremy Lipking, Nick Alm, and Will St. John, however, I’m careful not to replicate them as I prefer discovering my own path, letting my brushstrokes and subconscious guide me toward an outcome that feels fresh and unforced. As I refine my craft, I strive to harmonise the luminous qualities of painting with the tonal richness gleaned from drawing, both of which require a similar approach of layering, which I tend to favour for creating subtlety and dimensionality.

Having lived in major cities most of my life, I’m excited by the greenery and natural scenery Houston and North America offer, and I plan to incorporate more of these settings into my work. Ultimately, I hope my art reflects how I experience the world: a blend of studied observation, playful experimentation, and a genuine curiosity about people and places I come across. My portrait works, in particular, are an exploration of the different sides that I see of those who are close to me. I wish to express how these recurring characters can have different personalities, especially as they interact with the environment here in Texas.
